Effect of Bloodletting on the Blood Pressure and Metabolism of Lipid in Rats

Abstract
In order to study the effect of Bloodletting on the high blood pressure, and on the lipid metabolism, the bloodletting was done at the corresponding loci of the Wi-jung (B40) and Jeong loci at the end of the 4 extremities of the experimental animals.
The effect on the reduction of blood pressure was studied by measuring the blood pressure of spontaneously hypertensive rats, and the level of total cholesterol, phospholipid, and ¥â-lipoprotein were also experimented in the serum of spontaneously hypertensive rats.
The following results have been obtained;
1. In the effect of bloodletting at the Wi-jung and Jeong loci on the reduction of hourly and every two days, the most remarkable reduction of the blood pressure was noticed I hour and 1 day after bloodletting respectively.
2. The level of total cholesterol was decreased significantly by the bloodletting at the Wi-jung and Jeong loci, and the most remarkable decrease was noticed at the 5th day after bloodletting.
3. The level of phospholipid was decreased significantly by the bloodletting at the Wi-jung and Jeong loci.
4. The remarkable decrease of the level of ¥â-lipoprotein was noticed at the 3rd, 5th day after bloodletting at the Wi-jung and Jeong loci.
5. Blank loci have no effective reduction by the bloodletting.
According to the above results, it is concluded that the bloodletting at the loci of Wi-jung and Jeong showed the significant reduction of blood pressure and the lipid metabolism, and it is thought that bloodletting is on effective the therapeutics on the regulation of high blood pressure.
